Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Forecasted for Canary Islands Over Halloween Weekend

As the Halloween weekend approaches, Spain is set to experience a stark contrast in weather conditions. While much of mainland Spain will enjoy warm and settled weather, certain areas of the Canary Islands, particularly Tenerife, La Palma, and El Hierro, are bracing for heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Meteorologists have issued warnings that these islands could receive over 50 millimetres of rainfall per square metre between Saturday, October 31, and early next week. This weather pattern is attributed to an approaching system combined with cold air at higher altitudes, which is anticipated to trigger showers and thunderstorms across the region. The likelihood of locally heavy rainfall could pose challenges, especially in areas with poor drainage, and increase risks for travelers navigating mountainous regions. Residents and tourists are advised to stay updated through local weather forecasts and adhere to official alerts.

In contrast, mainland Spain is expected to bask in relatively calm weather due to high pressure maintaining clear skies. Andalusia is predicted to experience some of the highest temperatures, with Seville potentially reaching 29°C, and Granada and Huelva seeing highs around 27°C. Madrid is also set to enjoy mild conditions with temperatures around 22°C. However, isolated showers may occur in some Mediterranean areas, particularly in Catalonia and the Valencian Community, while the Balearic Islands could face more unsettled weather with heavy rain and thunderstorms in certain parts.

Travelers should be aware of strong easterly winds forecasted around the Strait of Gibraltar, which could bring powerful gusts during the early morning hours. Additionally, morning fog and mist may reduce visibility in parts of Galicia and along Spain’s Cantabrian coast, potentially affecting travel plans.

Despite the overall pleasant weather expected across much of mainland Spain, the significant regional differences highlight the importance of checking the latest weather forecasts and official warnings before making travel plans or participating in outdoor activities this Halloween weekend.
