Spain is facing an extreme weather shift this weekend as temperatures in some inland areas are predicted to plummet to as low as 3°C, before dramatically rising above 30°C in other parts of the country. This stark temperature variation means that residents and visitors may need to adapt by wearing warm clothing in the morning and lighter outfits in the afternoon, depending on their location.
In the central and northern regions, cities such as Ávila could experience lows of 3°C, while Segovia is forecasted to drop to 4°C. Similarly, Burgos, León, Salamanca, and Huesca may see temperatures around 5°C, reflecting the cold mornings expected in these areas.
Conversely, southern Spain will remain significantly warmer. Cities like Seville and Huelva could see afternoon temperatures as high as 31°C, with Granada, Málaga, and Almería reaching around 27°C. Forecasts suggest that Cádiz and Córdoba might experience temperatures of about 28°C.
Apart from the temperature swings, weather alerts have been issued for heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas in several areas, particularly along parts of the Mediterranean coast and southern Spain. Girona’s coastline is under orange warnings for strong winds and waves up to four meters, while Menorca could see waves reaching five meters, accompanied by strong northerly winds. Weather advisories also affect parts of Mallorca, Ceuta, and Lanzarote.
These weather conditions could disrupt ferry services, coastal walks, beach visits, and other outdoor activities. Authorities advise travelers to monitor local forecasts and heed warnings before making plans.
Despite the cold start to the weekend, temperatures are expected to rise from October 12, with warmer air spreading across much of Spain. Cities such as Badajoz, Córdoba, Huelva, Ourense, and Seville could once again see temperatures exceeding 30°C, while Madrid is likely to reach around 25°C. This warming trend is anticipated to bring temperatures above seasonal averages, making the weather feel more like late summer in many areas of the country next week.
