Bulgaria is facing significant weather disruptions as orange-level alerts have been issued for six districts due to expected heavy rainfall on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The affected districts are Kurdzhali, Haskovo, Yambol, Bourgas, Varna, and Shoumen, where intense rainfall poses a potential threat. In addition, yellow-level alerts have been applied to most of the country, indicating potentially dangerous weather conditions.
The national weather forecast predicts widespread cloudiness and rain across Bulgaria, with central and eastern regions likely to experience the heaviest rainfall. In contrast, the southwest is expected to see a decrease in precipitation as the day progresses. Northerly winds of moderate strength are anticipated throughout the country, with stronger gusts in eastern areas. Temperatures are expected to range from 10°C to 15°C, with Sofia likely reaching around 11°C.
In mountainous areas, conditions will be cloudy, windy, and rainy, with snowfall expected above approximately 1,700 meters. Significant precipitation is forecast for regions including the central Balkan Mountains, the Rhodope Mountains, Strandzha, and Sakar. At elevations of 1,200 meters, temperatures could reach 6°C, dropping to about 1°C at 2,000 meters.
The Black Sea coast will not be spared from the adverse weather, as forecasts indicate cloudy skies, rain, and strong winds, with the possibility of heavy precipitation in the afternoon. Temperatures along the coast are expected to peak between 15°C and 17°C, while sea temperatures may range from 20°C to 21°C. A yellow-level warning is in place for strong winds and waves, urging residents and travelers to stay informed and exercise caution.
Sofia City, Pernik, Kyustendil, and Blagoevgrad are the only districts not currently under any weather warnings. However, the widespread alerts across the country highlight the need for vigilance and preparedness as Bulgaria braces for potentially severe weather conditions.
