Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently visited Baku, Azerbaijan, where he met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations between the two countries. The meeting, which took place on October 23, highlighted the commitment of both nations to expand cooperation and strengthen their partnership.

During the discussions, Jaishankar conveyed greetings from Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing appreciation for Aliyev’s positive stance on deepening ties with India. This engagement is part of a series of diplomatic efforts aimed at fostering closer relations between the two countries.

Jaishankar’s visit to Azerbaijan included talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart to review existing bilateral relations and explore new areas of cooperation. This visit follows the recent presentation of credentials by India’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Abhay Kumar, to President Aliyev on October 16, where Kumar reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

Earlier in the month, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh attended the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku. At the summit, Singh emphasized India’s dedication to peace, cooperation, and regional stability, as well as the importance of collective action against cross-border terrorism.

The ongoing diplomatic engagement, including Prime Minister Modi’s meeting with President Aliyev at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in September, underscores the mutual interest of India and Azerbaijan in exploring opportunities for collaboration on shared interests. This series of high-level interactions reflects the steady progress in the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
