Saudi Arabia and Serbia are forging stronger economic and diplomatic ties, with a focus on expanding collaboration in key sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, food industries, and trade. Recent discussions between the two nations have centered on joint energy initiatives, advancements in information and communications technology, and agricultural partnerships. Efforts are also underway to enhance the presence of Serbian companies in the Saudi market and to attract Saudi investments into Serbia.
In a significant diplomatic development, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric convened in Belgrade to sign an agreement that eliminates visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This agreement is anticipated to facilitate official exchanges and bolster bilateral relations between the two countries.
The trade relationship between Saudi Arabia and Serbia has seen remarkable growth, with bilateral trade reaching $121 million in 2025, nearly nine times the figure recorded in 2012. This upward trajectory continued into the first half of 2026, with trade volumes climbing to $130.4 million—a substantial 152% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
Looking ahead, the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are expected to serve as platforms for further investment opportunities, business partnerships, and the exchange of expertise. Saudi Arabia has confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its economic development, innovation, cultural heritage, and investment prospects.
In addition to these developments, both nations are exploring potential collaborations in science and technology. Serbia is preparing for significant participation in the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, with plans to showcase more than 50 Serbian companies, further strengthening the economic ties between the two countries.
