Tom Holland has cemented his place in cinematic history as the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day became the first movie trailer ever to surpass one billion views. Released on March 17, the milestone was reached in just four days — a feat no other film promotion has ever achieved. The superhero genre continues to dominate global pop culture in ways that no other category of film can match.
To understand the scale of this achievement, it helps to look at what came before. The previous record holder for a 24-hour trailer debut was Deadpool & Wolverine, which racked up 365 million views following its Super Bowl premiere in February 2024. Before that, Tom Holland’s own Spider-Man: No Way Home had held the crown with 355.5 million views in its first day. Both records now belong to history.
Brand New Day obliterated those benchmarks by accumulating 718.6 million views within 24 hours of release. That figure even surpassed the viral debut of Grand Theft Auto VI, which had stunned the internet with 475 million views. By the following Tuesday, analytics firm WaveMetrix confirmed the total had climbed past 1.1 billion, making it the most-watched trailer of all time.
The trailer itself paints a deeply emotional picture of Peter Parker four years after the events of No Way Home. Everyone he loves — including girlfriend MJ and best friend Ned Leeds — has forgotten he ever existed. With the help of Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk, Peter must face a new threat entirely on his own, with no support network to fall back on.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to release on July 31. The film also stars Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, and Michael Mando. Indian audiences will get the film in six languages across all premium formats.
